The True North Strong and Free

DSC_0006

On the verge of tears. Drained, emotionally and physically.

DSC_0061
Protesters being held without charge. Held in a cold, damp makeshift jail with very little food and water. Women being denied tampons. No toilet paper. Overcrowding.

Arresting the media and innocent bystanders.

I really have nothing left to say. So I’ll let the photos speak for themselves…

Lies, lies, lies

Just got home after walking the streets of TO for the past 8 hours. With camera in hand and boyfriend by my side we walked the streets to peacefully observe and photo-document protesters in action. What we have witnessed is shocking, sad, and frightening.

Unnecessary vandalism, peaceful and humorous protests, and unnecessary police brutality. I have witnessed, first hand, an innocent women being beaten by cops using their bikes, cop cars on fire, people cornered by mounted police and charged at by horses.

Protesters: why do you protest and vandalize and then loot Starbucks? What message are you sending? You oppose corporations and capitalism and then you steal from the corporations you are against?
DSC_0259
Police: why are you attacking innocent protesters, bystanders, and families while we stand on the sidelines? I see the fear in your eyes behind your riot masks. You don’t want a violent protest however you are the instigators.

Media: why are you all fucking liars? You are broadcasting the “Black Bloc” but what about those who are standing peacefully trying to get their messages across. I have seen the riot police go around you as they charge the innocent with their shields and batons. Fuck you and show the people what is really going on out there.

My back is sore from a cop using his bike to shove me away from Queen’s Park. This was the site of hundreds of police keeping people far away. Keeping us from seeing possible (definite) confrontation (brutality) against the more violent protesters.
DSC_0243
I’m tired, damp, and emotionally drained. I’m disappointed with our police force, our government, and those who have silenced the voices of the peaceful who protest this bullshit summit.

P.S. Saw a couple of security guards putting their jackets and blankets over the RBC signs on University, trying to hide the fact that they are a major bank.

Saturday á la Moko

What’s great about this city (in the summer) is that you can hop on your bike and be taken to so many great places within a 20 minute radius.
Started off with a little last minute Dad-day shopping (ahm, for Ravi’s dad not mine as I was prepare and got my gift and card last week).
Biking across College Street we came across the Taste of Little Italy and spent a few moments checking out the scene (kinda boring so no pics). Stopped into Structube to check out some furniture and purchased this bad boy:
to be picked up this Thursday! Turns out the chair I have been drooling over was way too big and not comfortable at all.
After cruising through Kensington we headed down to Chinatown to check out this new noodle place I’ve been dying to check out:

It was Ramen Girl who drew me in there.

Her shoes are K-Swiss BTW.
Noodles
Who doesn’t love oodles of noodles?
Eating Noodles
Turns out their veggie option was made with pork broth so they had to make up a special dish for us using Miso broth.
IMG_0957
I wasn’t very impressed. The Spicy Mushroom instant noodles I get from my Chinatown grocer wins hands down (and you get a pack of 5 for $2.50). But who knows, maybe the meat dishes kick ass. Check out the place and let me know.

Stopped into Urban Outfitters and Winners on the way home and was disappointed by both. So stopped at LCBO for a guaranteed pick-me-up. Ravi’s doing work-shit tonight so I’m gunna slide in a movie and down a bottle of wine.
Happy Saturday yo.

Optimus Prime on Wellington

Chillin on Sunday night enjoying Iron Chef battle Arctic Char when I hear a screeching, abrasive noise outside.
Kitty has taken cover. Her sensitive kitty ears can’t take it.
I take my camera to the balcony to investigate. What I see is more of our 1 billion tax dollars at work.
G29 Barrier 1
You wouldn’t believe how crude this noise is.
What bonehead planner decided to place the G20 security barrier in the MIDDLE OF THE STREET 2 WEEKS EARLY!
G20 Barrier 2
Enjoy your commute tomorrow suburbanites!
P.S. Don’t they look like Optimus Prime? Transformers battle on Wellington!

My Name is Moko and I’m an Apple addict

I swear I wasn’t gunna get one.

I didn’t even see the need for having one.
But then the rents bought me the Sony reader for my bday so I exchanged it for an iPad and….
DSC_0002
Pure fun!
DSC_0001
I have the iPhone, a Macbook, an iMac, an iPod nano but this is totally different. It’s a reader, media player (sans Flash), and web browser all in this amazing little aluminum package.

After 1 week of use, here are my reviews for most needed (economical) apps:
I bought the cheapest, smallest hard drive iPad so this is a super useful app. Use your existing computer as a server for your music and video and stream it on your iPad. They have a free version but it is limited so I suggest forking out the $2.99 and getting the full version.
Just cause I like pretty, fun, amazing things and this app gives you the latest in fashion, culture, tech etc.
Boyfriend actually found this cool app game. Exploding flowers with pretty music and fun graphics. Perfect!
Just cause I hated chemistry in high school/university. This app would have made it fun.
Kind of like Guitar Hero for iPad. I loved the iPhone version and this one rocks too!
Apple, you win again. But please Mr. Jobs, let us have Flash!
