Just got home after walking the streets of TO for the past 8 hours. With camera in hand and boyfriend by my side we walked the streets to peacefully observe and photo-document protesters in action. What we have witnessed is shocking, sad, and frightening.
Unnecessary vandalism, peaceful and humorous protests, and unnecessary police brutality. I have witnessed, first hand, an innocent women being beaten by cops using their bikes, cop cars on fire, people cornered by mounted police and charged at by horses.
Protesters: why do you protest and vandalize and then loot Starbucks? What message are you sending? You oppose corporations and capitalism and then you steal from the corporations you are against?
Police: why are you attacking innocent protesters, bystanders, and families while we stand on the sidelines? I see the fear in your eyes behind your riot masks. You don’t want a violent protest however you are the instigators.
Media: why are you all fucking liars? You are broadcasting the “Black Bloc” but what about those who are standing peacefully trying to get their messages across. I have seen the riot police go around you as they charge the innocent with their shields and batons. Fuck you and show the people what is really going on out there.
My back is sore from a cop using his bike to shove me away from Queen’s Park. This was the site of hundreds of police keeping people far away. Keeping us from seeing possible (definite) confrontation (brutality) against the more violent protesters.
I’m tired, damp, and emotionally drained. I’m disappointed with our police force, our government, and those who have silenced the voices of the peaceful who protest this bullshit summit.
P.S. Saw a couple of security guards putting their jackets and blankets over the RBC signs on University, trying to hide the fact that they are a major bank.
